September 28 – November 12, 2016
Oni Cafe Gallery, Megijima, Japan
Reception on October 1 from 12:30 – 17:00
A gallery exhibition by REALtimeFOOD creators and ecological artists Patrick Lydon and Suhee Kang, with special guest Harumi Ikegame. The exhibition features the nature of Megijima, incuding:
Human:Nature — See and hear stories and images of the favorite “secret places” on the island as told by longtime Megijima residents, and learn different ways that the community is connected to the land both today and historically. This exhibit is the result of many hours of work spent interviewing islanders and capturing their favorite places, and is part of a project that Patrick and Suhee conducted over the course of multiple months during the 2013 Setouchi Triennale.
Colors of Soil — If soil is the soul of the earth, this exhibit brings us closer to that soul. A special collaboration between visiting Japanese textile artist Harumi Ikegame and REALtimeFOOD, this installation features a physical map of the island marked by materials dyed with a variety of soil pigments during a recent workshop she held here. See the variety of deep earth tones made from the soil at different locations in Megijima.
Nature Art — Enjoy a display of artworks for sale (and for free) made by Patrick, Suhee, and Harumi from natural elements on the island.
This is a free event / no registration needed
